Every year, each young researcher and new attendee to Coseners is paired up with a “mentor”, i.e., a regular attendee whom they can depend on for ice-breaker introductions to relevant researchers, and informal feedback on their research.
From 2019 this scheme will named after James P.G. Sterbenz, who was a colleague and a regular attendee at Coseners, despite living in Lawrence, Kansas. James had an extensive knowledge and ability to comment on almost any aspect of a presentation at the workshop. He was strongly committed himself to supporting young and new researchers.
In 2005, James Sterbenz joined the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Kansas, where his work centred on computer networks. He was promoted to Full Professor in 2014, and was for many years a Visiting Professor at Lancaster University. James passed away on 25th February 2019.
